A visually striking American hooked rug featuring an elaborate, symmetrical arrangement of geometric motifs in nearly ten distinct colors.

The composition is organized around a pair of central diamond-shaped medallions surrounded by circular devices, gridded trapezoids, and smaller lozenge forms. A dark inner border anchors the design, while the outer border is decorated with a continuous pattern of interlocking blue and pink loops.

Worked in a particularly vibrant palette of deep magenta, violet, red, blue, turquoise, pink, cream, yellow, and black, the rug has a remarkably modern graphic quality despite its evident age. Subtle irregularities in the shapes, spacing, and construction preserve the individuality of its anonymous maker.

A wonderfully expressive example of American domestic textile art, equally compelling as a floor covering or displayed on the wall.

Condition

Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use. Scattered fading, discoloration, pulls, minor losses, and irregularities are present throughout. The edges exhibit localized wear and slight distortion. The rug retains strong color and presents beautifully overall.

Approximately 46 1/2 × 34 1/2 inches.
