A striking early Western Apache pictorial basketry olla, finely coiled in willow and devil’s claw. The generously proportioned vessel has a rounded body, constricted neck, and flaring rim, with a warm golden surface and beautifully contrasting dark brown decoration.
Especially desirable for its lively figural imagery, the basket incorporates numerous stylized human figures among bold geometric and stepped motifs. The figures appear around the circumference of the vessel, giving the basket a remarkably animated and distinctive presence. Additional geometric decoration extends across the base and interior.
Western Apache, Arizona, circa 1900–1920.

Very good overall condition with a pleasing, well-preserved surface. Some breaks and losses to the rim wrapping, as photographed, with minor wear consistent with age and use. The body remains strong and presents beautifully.
