A charming carved wooden squirrel, depicted seated upright with outstretched forelegs and a boldly sweeping tail. Incised fur, rounded ears, prominent dark eyes, and a slightly open mouth give the figure an expressive personality. Mounted on a rectangular black-painted base, the squirrel displays a rich brown surface with scattered wear exposing the lighter wood beneath. A wonderfully sculptural example of early 20th-century folk art.
Condition: Age-related surface wear and scattered small chips. Both original arms were broken at one point and have been reattached.
Dimensions: Approximately 12 inches tall; base measures 6 × 8 inches.
