An extraordinary late 19th-century American trade sign, boldly advertising “Fine Sale of Umbrellas, Rain Capes & Coats & Galoshes.” This large-scale sign features a vibrant red-and-blue umbrella motif against a rich gilt ground, flanked by bold teal lettering and framed by original molded edges with shaped skirt and boot-jack feet.

Constructed with early pegged and square-nailed joinery, this sign retains excellent structural integrity and authenticity. Its original polychrome-painted surface has a warm, time-softened patina with just the right amount of age and wear for collectors seeking untouched examples.

Trade signs of this scale, condition, and graphic appeal are increasingly scarce on the market. This piece stands as both a powerful decorative object and an important artifact of 19th-century American commerce, representing the height of Victorian-era advertising design.

In very good overall condition with some areas of paint loss. Also a few screw holes where the previous owner used to hang the sign.
