A rare hand-carved wooden weaving heddle attributed to the Meskwaki (Sac and Fox) people of the Great Lakes and Prairie regions, dating to the 19th century or earlier.
The arched crest is ornamented with a deeply carved radiating fan or sunburst motif and pierced at the top for suspension. Below, a dense row of individually formed wooden splines creates the heddle or reed through which the warp threads would have passed during weaving. The splines are secured between a substantial carved crest and horizontal wooden base.
The object retains a rich, nearly black surface with extensive wear, exposed wood, and a deep patina acquired through generations of handling and use. Its striking architectural form and boldly carved crest give it exceptional sculptural presence beyond its original utilitarian purpose.

Condition
Very good condition considering its age and functional history. Expected surface wear, abrasions, minor edge losses, and areas of exposed wood throughout. Several splines are shortened or absent along the right side. The remaining structure is stable and retains a rich, dark, undisturbed patina.
