Dimensions: 16 ½" diameter x 13 ½" tall

A superb mid-19th century regimental snare drum featuring its original hand-painted decoration of a spread-wing American eagle clutching arrows and olive branches, framed by a banner reading “REG. U.S. INFANTRY.” The painted surface is entirely original and beautifully preserved, with rich colors and excellent detail.

The interior retains its original maker’s label reading A. Rogers / Flushing, L.I. — an important New York-area drum maker of the period. The red-painted upper and lower hoops, heads, and rope appear to be appropriate replacements, sympathetically done for display and stability.

Military drums of this caliber, with original paint and maker’s label intact, are scarce. This example displays exceptionally well, making it a centerpiece for any collection of Civil War-era militaria, patriotic Americana, or 19th-century military music.
