Beaded Bandolier Bag
Dimensions: 33" overall x 6.5" wide
An exceptional mid-19th century Native American bandolier bag, likely Great Lakes or Athabascan, dating to circa 1860s. The wide red wool shoulder straps are elaborately beaded with curvilinear floral motifs in vibrant hues of cobalt, sky blue, pink, yellow, and white. The smaller pouch is similarly decorated with delicate floral beadwork on a light ground, displaying a soft patina consistent with early examples.
Bandolier bags of this era were prestige items, worn ceremonially and often presented as gifts. This example shows honest age and use, with some bead loss and light wear to the wool, while retaining its striking visual presence and early character.
A rare and desirable early example, with form and proportion that suggest possible Athabascan origin.
