An exceptional Regulation Civil War Drum. Painted on the front is a wonderful eagle with a patriotic shield on its chest with a curling riband in his beak that reads REGT. U.S. INFANTRY. Above the eagle are 21 stars and a sunburst. This decoration is hand painted on a blue field. Measures approx 16.5 inches in diameter x 10.5 inches tall.
The interior of the drum retains the original maker’s label, fully intact, reading “MANUFACTURED / BY / A. ROGERS, / FLUSHING, L.I.” Rogers is known to have supplied at least 3,400 drums on ten contracts with the U.S. government starting in August 1862.
The drum has some minor paint loss, as pictured, and does not have its drum heads intact. Remaining are the original drum shell, with the bottom and top rim.
