Probably Ojibwe/Chippewa. The dark cloth sheath is ornamented on both sides with finely worked floral and foliate motifs in colorful glass seed beads, including shades of turquoise blue, cobalt, amber, red, green, and white.

The sheath is bordered with pale blue beadwork and finished with an unusually elaborate fringe composed of translucent tubular glass beads and red wool tassels. Additional amber-colored tubular beads and tassels ornament the lower and upper ends. The curvilinear floral vocabulary reflects the sophisticated beadwork traditions that developed throughout the Great Lakes and Eastern Woodlands regions during the 19th century.

The accompanying trade knife retains its long steel blade and dark wooden handle embellished with circular brass inlays or tacks.
