An impressive American salt-glazed stoneware pitcher decorated in cobalt blue. Western PA in origins. The robust baluster-form body is ornamented with sweeping foliate and dotted motifs beneath horizontal cobalt bands, while the tall neck carries additional freehand decoration. A handsome example of nineteenth-century utilitarian pottery elevated by the potter’s confident, rhythmic brushwork.

Condition: Surviving in excellent condition with no apparent chips, cracks or areas of restoration. One kiln burn to the bottom right of the pitcher, dating to the original 19th century firing.
